Climate Change in the 21st Century
Real “burning” issue in this day & age; some say we’re doomed & might not survive past 2050 but are these assumptions credible or exaggerations?
Lets break it down and look at the root cause of the problem. The main cause is global warming ( gradual rise in earth’s temperature as a result of urbanization & industrialization ). The main cause of global warming is carbon dioxide emissions. The main source of carbon dioxide is burning of fossil fuels, such as coal. This is our primary source of energy.
The immediate solution which comes to the average man’s mind is : renewable sources of energy such as solar energy, but is it as efficient & reliable? Not quite. Many major countries such as Germany have already tried & failed miserably. Germany didn’t just fall short of its climate targets, its emissions have shown a gradual increase since 2009. Renewable sources are simply not the future of energy consumption.
The German Experiment had catastrophic consequences. They suffered a huge loss in terms of economy and as a result, the price of electricity shot up leading to the drastic rise in unemployment and poverty. Which brings us to the unexplored root cause of the problem : Poverty. Research shows that in countries where the GDP is above $5000, people care about the environment more.
People say coal isn’t good, we should stop burning coal. What can we do about it; burn trees instead? One of the rather astonishing and ignored facts of this century is that there are more trees in the northern hemisphere than there were a 100 years ago. Why? because poor people burned coal instead and the educated ones planted more trees. This shows us that instead of worrying about global warming and climate change, we should be worrying about the real problems which can be solved in the short term through a collective effort : Poverty, Illiteracy & Unemployment.
To those who still think that we should focus on global warming instead : What are we going to do about it right now? Stop using vehicles? Switch off our electronic gadgets? Give up heat & electricity? No. We should work towards improving child nutrition and reducing illiteracy because the real cause of the problem here is poverty.
